Digitale Welten Advanced Training "Space Junk Mobile"
The starry sky on a clear night doesn't necessarily suggest it, but in space, orbiting our Earth, more and more waste left behind by humans is accumulating: space junk. We are thus facing a growing space pollution problem, because what is left behind in space does not simply disappear. And while the tech bros of this world dream of the sustainable colonization of space, Digitale Welten is training critical space junk researchers.
Building on their newly developed workshop format, "Space Junk Mobile," the Digitale Welten artists Kati Hyyppä and Niklas Roy invite professionals working with children and young people to a one-day training event. In the spirit of multidirectional knowledge transfer, Kati and Niklas will “teach the teachers” the necessary knowledge and tools to independently implement the workshop in their own institutions. Participants are invited to contribute their experiences as youth workers to the workshop development and the creation of learning materials and instructions.
The training event will take place on May 8, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at display – Raum für digitale Praxis (Berliner Straße 60, 60311 Frankfurt am Main)!
At the end of the seven-hour event, participants will not only have the necessary know-how to independently conduct the "Space Junk Mobile" workshop; they will also have gathered valuable knowledge and fascinating facts about space, its human-caused pollution, and recycling, which they can now pass on to the next generation using artistic and practical methods.
The event is for: professionals in the field of child and youth work, artists, educators, and students in related fields.
The training event will be conducted in German. However, the Digitale Welten team and the artists can also answer questions in English.
The development of "Space Junk Mobile" is part of the "Play Test!" project, in cooperation with KIKK and Creative Coding Utrecht. It is funded by the European Union's Erasmus+ program and made possible by the generous support of the Crespo Foundation.
